One of the world's largest super-volcanoes in Yellowstone, was struck on Sunday March 30th, by a magnitude 4.8 earthquake, the biggest recorded there since February 1980, but no damage or injuries were immediately reported. Videos of lines of bison and other animals 'fleeing' Yellowstone national park in the US have raised fears that the supervolcano underneath the park is preparing to erupt. Supervolcanoes are the second most globally cataclysmic event that can affect the Earth, and in the past they've been responsible for mass extinctions and 'volcanic winters' lasting for year…

Ultima cartolina da Barcellona

Prima di lasciare Barcellona ho fatto due cose: sono andato a vedere il sistema di specchi sospesi sopra il mercato delle pulci "Els Encants", poi ho fatto due passi nel Barrio Gràcia che riserva sempre delle sorprese. Si tratta di un quartiere che i turisti conoscono poco, ma che è una città nella città, piena di botteghe artigiane, negozi originali, ma anche boutiques, gallerie d'arte, buoni ristoranti e abitanti di spirito. Alcuni anni fa, durante la Festa Major che cade intorno a ferragosto, ricordo che molte famiglie avevano messo il tavolo da pranzo per strada e invitavano i passanti a mangiare con loro.

Mentre bevevo una coppa di sangrìa in un bar, ho notato che di fianco a un negozio della catena 'Desigual', qualcuno ne aveva aperto uno simile chiamandolo 'Inusual'. "E' il cinese"- mi fa il cameriere - "Adesso aspettiamo che qualche africano ne apra uno che si chiami 'Insólito' o 'Diferente' così cambiamo il nome alla via e la chiamiamo Calle de los Sinónimos."

Mentre l'autobus attraversa Plaza de España costeggiando la vecchia Arena de Toros da tempo trasformata in un contenitore commerciale, leggo su un muro una frase che avrebbe fatto storcere il naso ai picadores, ma sarebbe piaciuta al toro: "Per venirne fuori non basterà convincere il potere, occorrerà costringerlo."
