When Lana brings her new boyfriend Bart on a visit to Tommy’s house, it doesn’t take long for the two men to realize that they knew each other as young children. Soon though, they disagree about their memories of a specific, trivial event. And as the disagreement lingers, some of Bart’s other resentments surface. Much like a memory we can’t quite piece together, Pillow Fortress shifts and transforms as it unfolds. What begins as a laid-back hangout film - where we’re seated around the dining table listening to Tommy recount how his old neighbour was allegedly sleeping with Lady Gaga - gradually morphs into something far more unsettling as subtle power dynamics emerge. But significant is the final. Not a twist. Only a real important memory confession explaining an attitude and, in some measure, the steps to adulthood.
