Ali Ali was born in 1985 in the Gaza Strip, one of the territorial units forming the Palestinian Territories. At the age of 17 he practiced as a freelance photographer for EPA (European Pressphoto Agency) at the Gaza bureau before he joined the company two years later.
Since 2004 Ali has been based in Gaza from where he is covering news events in the Palestinian Authority and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict (especially the Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip, Israel’s withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, the Hamas coup in Gaza, and the Gaza War in 2008/2009).
In April 2013 Ali Ali has been selected for the 20th edition of the annual World Press Photo Joop Swart Masterclass. The twelve participants were chosen among 174 candidates from 54 countries who had been nominated earlier by World Press Photo's 18 international committees around the world.
