Are you seated comfortably? Probably not, if you’re reading this at work. Sitting at a desk all day can kill, according to the title of Barbara Visser and RAAAF’s short film, or at least give you problems that not even exercise (or occasionally rising to your feet) can cure. They’ve taken a stand on behalf of desk-bound workers across the world with the star of their animation, the Outstanding Landscape of Affordances. This mammoth structure does more than alter the topography of today’s workplace; it fills the office with a gigantic labyrinthine mountain. Half office interior, half obstacle course, the project at the heart of Sitting Kills aims to increase the mental and physical activity of all who squirm and shift to find the optimal working position.

Dopo averlo perso di vista per anni me lo ritrovo davanti con il suo sorriso da avanspettacolo, pronto ad infastidirmi con l'ostentazione di qualche successo. Non conoscendo il pudore dei sentimenti, per un'ora si sente in dovere di raccontarmeli. Il suo bisogno di consenso compensa la mancanza di carattere, così come il bastone fa la funzione della vista per un cieco. Incapace d'una rivolta contro se stesso, confonde la realtà con la finzione, forte del fatto che anche Dio ha rispettato la regola secondo cui chi produce un'opera mediocre prova un bisogno invincibile di divulgarla.
