L'oggetto della scienza non cade mai completamente nel dominio della ragione, dato che è impossibile dimostrare ogni cosa usando solo la Logica, come s'illudeva Cartesio. La verità non è unica né inconfutabile proprio perché la mente non può giudicare o oltrepassare i suoi limiti, né essere ridotta ad una formula o un algoritmo. Non esiste niente di assoluto. Neanche la matematica, che rappresenta la razionalità per definizione, è immune dal sospetto che sia uno strumento arbitrario dell'uomo.
