38-39˚c gives us the blueprint of a relationship between a father and son inside the dream the protagonist experiences while under the spell of the elevated temperatures of a bathhouse. Thick sheets of paper in exquisite arrangement represent the two men who are linked by their identical birthmarks, yet cannot seem to look at each other. ---- Maureen Selwood

Archiviata la difficoltà a leggere Leopardi, vorrei parlare ancora una volta di uno dei miei talenti preferiti dell'800: Delacroix.
La sua abilità di interpretare il futuro è disarmante.
Questo è quello che è capace di scrivere il 14 novembre del 1855.
"Quando si è agitati nella vita da mille contrarietà, sia che si tratti di crucci o vere perdite senza rimedio, ci sono nature dure come la roccia che si consolano in fretta, mentre altre non ci riescono.
Berryer, di ritorno dagli Stati Uniti, mi ha raccontato che uno dei progressi di quel paese consiste nel far assicurare il proprio padre quando parte per uno di quei viaggi in cui si è esposti a essere fatti a pezzi su un battello o in una carrozza ferroviaria. Una volta che esiste la certezza che in caso di sventura il genitore vi sarà restituito in biglietti di banca, la famiglia è tranquilla, il padre può andare sulla luna e restarci, se questo gli fa piacere.
Ma io dubito che noi potremo arrivare a un grado di perfezione tale."

| Delacroix was facing, like all his generation, the emergence of photography. A tool both intriguing and fascinating to the artist, the medium occupies a special place in all of his work. It is the source of a profound reflection on the artistic truth against the photographic realism. Far from being regarded as a possible rival to painting, Delacroix read with interest the emergence and development of photography. He was a collector of photographic reproductions of works of art - paintings by Raphael, Rubens paintings or sculptures of the cathedral - although he did not take photographs himself he chose to have nude models, both male and female photographed by Eugène Durieu. He kept these snapshots with him. They were a valuable tool for drawing practice during his stay in the province. They meet the very personal criteria Delacroix had to use images intentionally somewhat vaguely and mostly stripped of all accessories picturesque stereotypes conveyed by the commercial attention of artists.     |
