"On Time" is one of my favourite films ever.
At a certain point, the man with the briefcase says to the boy, "It's the future. Thirty seconds ahead, give or take," meaning that what is seen in the briefcase anticipates reality by approximately 30 seconds.
It's worth noting that the boy also signs a contract, a commitment that somehow resembles Faustus and Mephistopheles.
The girl in the final scene is the one from the photograph, that is, the ex-girlfriend, probably arrived at the airport in the midst of reconsideration or, at the very least, for clarification.
Steering the boy out of the present, causing him to miss the encounter with his beloved, also appears to disturb the cynical salesman. And this is the final touch to the painting.
